Attend a Short Course

NSF I-Corps Short Courses are for university researchers and early-stage startup founders who are interested in exploring the market potential of their work and learning entrepreneurial skills.

In the free, 2-week I-Corps short course, STEM field researchers and student entrepreneurs learn how to “get out of the building” and learn from potential customers. Their goal is to determine if they are solving a real-world problem with a sizeable market opportunity.

In addition to providing entrepreneurial training, this program helps researchers identify new ways to apply their current or future research to solve real-life challenges.

How it works

The interactive course begins with an in-person kickoff workshop (two half-days) where teams learn how to:

  1. Identify their top customer segments
  2. Develop hypotheses about the value proposition they offer each segment
  3. Find and effectively interview potential customers about their problems/needs

Over the next two weeks, teams work to speak with 30 potential customers. Each week they join a one-hour video conference call with instructors to check-in, share progress, and receive coaching.

The program wraps-up with an in-person workshop (half day) during which teams present their findings, get more coaching, and learn about progressing their ideas with the help of additional NSF I-Corps and other entrepreneur programming.
